I had been searching for new dinnerware for a few weeks. I wanted something white and fairly easy so it could be dressed up effortlessly for a variety of gatherings and holidays. This Oneida set definitely fits those requirements. The pieces are all extremely elegant and stylish, and the style will absolutely flatter those wanting a timeless pattern. The set came with 12 of each and every: dinner plates, salad/dessert plates, soup bowls, cups and saucers. It also includes 1 serving bowl, a platter and a creamer and sugar bowl.
The stoneware has a nice weight, not too heavy and definitely not lightweight. The pieces all stack nicely and as compactly as possible. The color is not a true bright white, but much more of a creamy white, which I like. The dinner plates have substantial room for food as do the salad/dessert plates. The dots on the salad plates are not as protruding as they are on the other pieces and I do wonder why, but it does not take away from the beauty. The bowls are shallow and would not hold additional than a very first course serving of soup, so if you are looking for substantial bowls, these are not them. I do not mind since I have some other bowls that I will use for that purpose. As salad bowls, they would be best. The cups, which I was not planning on keeping due to the fact I have a collection of mugs that I really like, are my favorite pieces. They are dainty and excellent for serving a modest after-dinner cup of coffee or tea, so I strategy on keeping them. The saucers can also double as appetizer plates.
There are a few issues that could concern some. I wonder if these are considered seconds or irregulars given that the glaze on a couple of pieces does not seem to cover the whole dish. I discover that it is not a major deal considering that it is around the bottom edges and does not affect the look in any way. The only way to notice it is to rub your hand along the edge and you can feel the bare stoneware in pretty little areas. Also, there are a couple of pock marks I noticed when the dish is turned to catch the light just proper. Again, no major deal to me as I don\'t believe my guests will be studying the dishes.
They have been run by way of the dishwasher numerous times and I can report no problems. Putting them away in the cupboard for the very first time, I banged a plate pretty challenging and either luckily, or mainly because of the good quality, it did not chip. As for microwave use, I wonder if any dish these days is in fact microwave safe. I tested a salad plate for one minute, and it was fairly hot to the touch, especially on the underside not as much on the rim of the plate.
I bought this set off the Oneida webpage. From reviews I\'ve read, their service is fantastic. None of my pieces arrived broken, so I did not have to contact them for replacements. The set came in 1 big box with big bubble wrap protecting the inside contents. I suggest becoming property for this heavy delivery so they can bring the loaded dolly straight to your kitchen. It will save your back for certain! My complaint with the order itself, is that processing seems to take longer than other locations I do internet ordering with. I placed the order on the 10th of the month and I finally got a shipping notification on the 15th. The item arrived on the 20th, with significantly anticipation. The wait, in the end, was worth it and so was the $64.99* I paid for the big set. My money was surely well spent!
